PlayStation has decided to remove key games permanently, rendering Platinum Achievement impossible for these titles.
One popular PlayStation 4 exclusive will soon no longer allow players to achieve Platinum trophy achievement in future.
As we move further toward an all-digital future, more and more video games have been pulled offline – Marvel’s Avengers being one of them; plus FIFA games like FIFA 17 being discontinued suddenly as well as classic CS:GO being discontinued and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag disappearing off Steam just this month alone.
Now it is PlayStation’s turn to pull an immensely popular game offline: Gran Turismo Sport was released for PlayStation 4 back in 2017 and all online services will be discontinued as of 31 January 2024; that gives fans more notice than FIFA did.
“After the end of service date, online services like Community, Open Lobby and Sport mode will no longer be accessible, nor features/items such as custom liveries,” states a blog post from Epic Games. Offline portions can still be played including all previously acquired Downloadable Content.
“Since our launch in 2017, the Gran Turismo Sport online service has seen tremendous adoption by users worldwide. From now on, we will work to continue improving this feature for Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation 4 system and PlayStation 5 console.”
Players will still be able to complete career progression and access tracks offline, but no longer earn online-dependent trophies such as Platinum for Gran Turismo Sport. It remains to be seen if Sony makes moves that restore such opportunities; otherwise trophy hunters should act immediately!
