One Red Dead Redemption player may have come across an unexpected tribute to Arthur Morgan within the game that you may not have noticed immediately.

Red Dead Redemption 2 remains one of the finest looking games ever produced to this day; fans still long to see it get an upgrade but that does not seem likely – although mods do provide this solution. Red Dead Reemption received its current-gen port earlier this year which, while generally well handled, fell far short of expectations as far as being full remake. But fans continue to love its rich detail – you might just have missed Arthur Morgan in your initial playthrough!

Indo-J first noticed this Arthur Morgan reference. If it slipped your mind, don’t take offense; the scene occurs between John Marston and Bonnie MacFarlane while they travel by horse-cart; Bonnie refers to John as being “like someone who’s seen some hard times”. Additionally she laments having lived such an isolated existence: “Sometimes I wish I’d been more daring; seen more places, seen different things.”

Here comes our first subtle reference. In John’s response, “If I may say so myself, Miss MacFarlane,” John subtly alludes to Red Dead Redemption 2, where Arthur famously held back from fleeing Pinkertons while giving John time to escape – thus adding yet another dimension of meaning behind “Takes more strength to stay than run”.

Fans took to the comments to rave about just how incredible the franchise’s storytelling is, with one user noting, “John loved Arthur, yet also resented him, not for anything Arthur did to John but because of what Arthur did for John,” while another added, “you can see after almost 11 years, John still thinks about Arthur… Now I want to start another playthrough!”
