Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City was widely celebrated as one of gaming’s best open-world environments; things have evolved quickly!
Many have fallen deeply in love with Night City since Cyberpunk 2077’s release, especially with Update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty from CD Projekt RED’s devs, who finally succeeded in unlocking all its full potential with Cyberpunk 2077.
With Phantom Liberty now out and players flocking in droves, Cyberpunk 2077 overtakes Starfield in terms of player count – no small feat when one considers where Cyberpunk started back in 2020! While players still wish for third-person mode gameplay, there’s much else they love besides third-person perspective play: some discovered mysterious connections to The Witcher, while others found an emotional tribute for a fan who passed before Phantom Liberty launched, all. At the same time, Phantom Liberty may bring exciting quests and characters (Hello Idris Elba!) but Night City remains at center stage despite new investigations & feelings (Hello Idris Elba!), Phantom Liberty remains Night City itself: it remains its true star!
Reddit user karna771 kicked off this discussion thread by suggesting Nighty City might be “one of the greatest settings ever created in a video game.” They wrote, “I don’t know if it’s just m,e but something so engaging about this universe speaks to me; something about its depth, scope, siz,e and detail in its architecture just makes Cyberpunk feel even stronger for this reason; even on my Witcher game,s it felt rich with art direction, size and architectural detail that didn’t appear elsewhere compared with The Witcher games for example… there wasn’t one building that looked alike… I loved everything about that universe!”
