Mafia 4 will take place outside America and, according to new job listings, can now be confirmed.
Recently, several job listings online have indicated that the next Mafia game might take place outside America and have since been reported on Reddit by fans who are beginning to speculate as well as form opinions regarding its setting.
Hangar 13, developer of Mafia 4, recently began advertising for Senior 3D Environment Artists who specialize in organic art & landscapes (Unreal engine) creation. According to their listing, this individual must also possess the abilities needed to craft AAA game assets within large virtual world environments with organic models being the key focus.
According to their listing, they’ll define, develop and maintain high-end-run game environments to support Mafia franchise games – meaning for sure they will work on Mafia games as part of this role.
“Organic models.” If Mafia 4 were set in an urban environment, less attention might be devoted to producing 3D organic models compared to when its focus is placed on America outside key cities from its past; though fans of Mafia speculate this prequel set in Sicily with depicting its rise will take place instead.
One comment suggests the game could take place during “the mafia’s dark days, when it was being mercilessly hunted by elite troops under Benito Musolini.”
Be wary when reading listings like this one; depending on its timeline and setting, Mafia 4 could still take place in America but show its early days before moving onto cities and urban settings. Also keep in mind that both Mafia 4 and 5 have already been announced by Hangar 13–there could even be job listings out for Mafia 5.
Whatever happens, at least we know Mafia 4 is currently under development – hopefully soon we’ll even get some footage to view!
