Red Dead Redemption fans get a surprise update with free 60fps support courtesy of Rockstar Games.
Unbeknownst to most, Red Dead Redemption received an update with various enhancements – one being 60 frames-per-second playback.
Rockstar Games fans have long asked for higher framerates in its classic western game Rockstar games, and today, they received what seemed to be an out-of-the-blue update bringing this feature.
Patch 1.2.2 includes “general bug fixes, stability improvements, and enhancements.” However, until you start up and access the options in the game, you won’t see that a 60 frames-per-second option has been introduced, indeed burying its lead.
Though we have yet to test it ourselves, several players are commenting positively about the new patch and verifying that their game now runs smoother. Of note: it only seems available via backward compatibility for PS5.
Of course, Redditors ask when Red Dead Redemption 2 will receive similar improvements, given its incredible popularity. Many fans are dismayed that RDR received much attention quickly; we may need to wait longer before seeing RDR2 upgraded similarly.
Given Rockstar is likely focusing on GTA VI with an anticipated trailer expected soon, we may not see another patch like this for RDR2 anytime more quickly – though who knows for sure. Either way, we were delighted by this surprise addition and hope more studios start adding 60fps options retroactively into older games!
