Cyberpunk 2077 developer defends Starfield against fan criticism.
Players recently have drawn comparisons between Bethesda’s Starfield and CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077; its developer has responded by explaining that both studios have different priorities.
Players have recently made comparisons between Starfield (space RPG) and Cyberpunk 2077’s futuristic setting despite both titles’ vast differences, as some fans claim it outshines Starfield significantly; even Twitch streamer Asmongold recently attacked it, calling it “plain sh**ty.”
Starfield initially received positive critical reviews upon its preview release on 6 September; however, since its full launch, it has met mixed reactions among players, even falling behind Fallout 76 to become Bethesda’s lowest-rated game. By comparison, Cyberpunk 2077 continues its upward momentum following the recent 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty expansion release; CD Projekt Red recently reported it had sold 25 million copies worldwide!
However, Bethesda Studios recently issued an apology in defense of Starfield and Bethesda against criticisms made against them by Starfield fans and cyberpunk 2077 players. Patrick K Mills of Cyberpunk 2077’s Quest design department is an avid supporter of Starfield himself and sees differences as simply coming down to different priorities in games such as these.
“[Cinematics] is not their focus for many reasons, with player freedom taking an equally prominent place,” tweeted Hendrie. “You simply can’t pull off something like Judy’s roof in Starfield, as that scene could play out anywhere at any time on multiple planets – so much more freedom! ”
“They do some scenes that are staged more intricately, like meeting constellation for the first time or performing quest sequences,” continued Mr. Keinath, “but have many more scenes with an ever-rotating cast of characters in various locations.”
Developers showing solidarity is always heartening to see. Starfield and Cyberpunk 2077 should be celebrated equally (even though one has Idris Elba!).
