PlayStation Plus free game hailed as both beautiful and tedious
PlayStation Plus subscribers have expressed disappointment in Sony’s latest game, saying that while its graphics may look fantastic, playing through is simply too tedious and repetitive to warrant investing time into playing it.
PlayStation Plus users have recently received access to October’s free monthly games: Farming Simulator 22, Weird West and today’s topic for discussion, The Callisto Protocol.
Striking Distance Studios released The Callisto Protocol as a sci-fi survival horror game late 2022 and follows Captain Jacob Lee through an attempt at escape from an intense security prison filled with monsters. Although its visual details received critical acclaim when released, fans and critics still consider this one of the least engaging survival-horror titles ever released.
Zairy47 shared their experience of this game on PlayStation Plus subreddit and specifically noted its lack of scare factor as one of their least intimidating horror titles they’ve encountered so far.
“Callisto Protocol is one of the most stunningly beautiful games ever designed but by God…it can be so tedious!” They lamented:
“The combat was dull, with none of the jumpscares working properly for a horror game. One time when it did work was when I accidentally levitated an object past my character that went right to my camera for an unsettling split second…”
As many may already know, The Callisto Protocol was inspired heavily by Dead Space series; so much so, that its creator created and considered it its spiritual successor.
However, fans disagreed; many believed it had no more to offer than aesthetic quality and no compelling plotline to warrant an extended playthrough experience.
“Overall I enjoyed it for what it is; however, its length and repetition left something to be desired by its end.” Graphics and sound were great but gameplay became somewhat repetitive over time due to uninspired bosses who are all but useless!
“I played at launch and found it to be what it appeared: an attractive container filled with nothing.”
“Yeah the combat was very unusual. Although I liked it overall, the most memorable aspect is likely its actress from The Boys”.
