Far Cry 6 received unjustifiable criticism among fans. They agree.
Ubisoft’s most successful and lucrative properties aside from Assassin’s Creed are Far Cry and Far Cry 3, both created by Ubisoft.
At first, each Far Cry entry throws you onto an idyllic tropical island filled with threats – like lions, crocodiles, and bandits – who all want to kill you – such as lions, crocs and bandits. But by far, the deadliest predator must be Honey Badger; try not to provoke or mess with this dangerous critter, or it will exact its revenge against you!
Since 2013’s Far Cry 3, the series has featured charismatic villains, most recently being “El Presidente” Anton Castillo, played by Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Boys, and The Mandalorian). In Far Cry 6, Giancarlo Esposito reprised this role.
Metacritic scored Far Cry 6 an acceptable 70s average score across all available platforms, pleasing fans while not exceeding them. Community criticism often highlighted Far Cry 6 for following its tried and tested formula of prior entries rather than testing its limits and pushing boundaries within its series.
Far Cry 6 earned our reviewer 6/10, with our critic explaining that he intended for it to be more than previous titles – hoping for something unique regarding the violence of the setting. I wanted Far Cry 6 to break with its predecessors by upping its pace of revolution while creating civil unrest, something which open world games can capture through terrain changes dependent upon player actions; yet instead, it does little with this promising concept and lacks many elements which made previous Far Cry games successful.” Unfortunately, however, it did little of either, just repeating what has made past Far Cry franchise games great.”
Redditors have taken to Reddit in search of games they feel have received forts of hateful reviews, like Far Cry 6. LeonSmith1401 initiated the discussion by saying they enjoyed Far Cry 6 but felt it wasn’t better than its predecessor and asked their opinions. “Far Cry 6 seems to receive so much negativity despite my enjoyment and thought it was superior to 5. What are your views?” LeonSmith1401 said as they opened this thread of dialogue.
“Far Cry 6 may not be bad per se; however, its appeal for so long has become tired,” noted Competitive-Delay815. However, TheLeadSponge offers that perhaps that was why so many enjoyed Far Cry.
Saint_Link suggested Deus Ex: Mankind Divided as another possible choice: “Many criticisms focused around Square Enix monetizing it heavily. Heck, someone even mentioned Battleborn! Do you remember it? Deviate_Taco lamented being unable to play it offline while “Honestly Watch Dogs 1 was also enjoyable; its map needed more things to do than ever, and its plot line could’ve used some work–yet still an enjoyable experience,” according to mr_mstyr.
Far Cry 6 can now be played across PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
