Leaked screenshot from Assassin’s Creed Red confirms return of fan-favourite feature
There are multiple Assassin’s Creed projects on the horizon or already underway, one being Feudal Japan-set Assassin’s Creed Red which is well into production with leaks suggesting more stealth elements may make their debut into its final game.
Red’s two protagonists are an experienced male samurai and female shinobi who excel not only at combat, but are adept in stealth as well. Recent Assassin’s Creed games besides Mirage have gone for more action-focused RPG gameplay over stealth elements.
Ubisoft franchise started as more stealthy game than it is now; fans are delighted this iteration is returning the element in full swing. Not much is known yet regarding level layouts or enemy AI; however there have been insider comments concerning hiding bodies, sneaking through tall grass and extinguishing lights to eliminate shadows from playing out in game.
Mirage gave us a tantalizing preview of what is to come as it returned more closely to its roots, recalling early Assassin’s Creed games. Players responded well as this change was welcomed anew given we have not received a new Splinter Cell game for some time and Hitman has become immensely popular due to its stealth gameplay.
There has been no word yet from Ubisoft as to when Red will release, though players have long asked for its Japanese setting as being such an easy win for Ubisoft. Samurais and shinobi hiding from shadowy corners, dropping on unwitting enemies is certainly exciting; maybe this game should entirely forgo combat in favor of stealth gameplay with these heroes becoming just shadows in the night!
