Need For Speed’s future is uncertain at EA, and many fans of the racer are worried.

EA released news in September that they would move developers working on Need For Speed over to Battlefield – not exactly good news for racing franchises.

Criterion Studios had long been trusted with steering racing games at Electronic Arts (EA). When Criterion switched over to Battlefield for EA’s latest Need For Speed title, fans became concerned. A social media hashtag emerged shortly after that: #WeWantNFS.

EA has yet to comment on the franchise since, with details remaining scarce due to EA not commenting directly and with Battlefield 2042 having witnessed such significant concurrent player gains recently that its publisher likely wouldn’t lower development efforts for NFS in order to free up resources for it. Fans clamoring for it can continue doing so, but for now, EA seems focused on recovering their losses in Battlefield and is less committed than before to working on racing genre titles like NFS or GTL.

At present, competition in the racing genre is limited as EA acquired Codemasters before canceling Project Cars 3 and shifting this team towards DiRT instead.

“We Want NFS” began when YouTuber ‘Korrmotive’ initiated it; since then, fans have continued the movement by reminding Electronic Arts (EA) that this franchise exists. NFS: Unbound received only mild enthusiasm when released earlier this year, but EA made minimal efforts in promotion for that release either.

Never say never; at the very least, there will be at least a small team in the next game, and until we hear otherwise, it should come out soon enough. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and our voices loud!
