Netflix adds a new BioShock film.

One year ago, fans learned of Netflix’s BioShock film finally having its director. While this announcement came as welcome news to most, video game adaptations often fail to meet expectations; recent adaptations – like HBO’s The Last of Us – have done better, though many still fall flat.

With their director in place, fans eagerly anticipated further updates… and then came the Writers Guild of America strikes. Now those strikes have ended, and little updates are appearing – though none may seem significant, they hold promise that Netflix is taking care of this exciting FPS title.

“[I’ve been meeting regularly with director Francis Lawrence and his team] to refine a draft before sending it back in,” reports Michael Green in a recent Collider interview. “[We’re all] hopeful; this world we wish could come alive is incredible – so, here’s hoping – hopefully, soon I would love to give an update!”

“To avoid confrontation from Netflix legal, one must always carefully measure their words. They were enthusiastic before and post-strikee about our proposal; now even more excited after.”

Green’s words don’t quite compare with BioShock 4’s massive open world teased, but at least they show that everyone involved with BioShock 4 takes its creators seriously and takes every initiative seriously if taking on such an iconic franchise; doing right by it and fans will thank you; however, if done wrong… well they might let loose; look no further than Redditors setting expectations at “terrible.”.

“This could go extremely well. The world lore is complex and captivating – something which was key in drawing me in,” writes aTreeThenMe. However, any attempt at producing an action shooter hero game that only focused on saving things may lead to disaster – I want the story of Rapture, not one about hero vs big daddy or tweaker battles.”

At present, I remain neutral, neither hopeful nor pessimistic about BioShock’s future. How well that strategy pays off is up for debate, but so, too, are other aspects of its existence.
