GTA 6 delay becoming ever likely.
Since Grand Theft Auto 6 remains under development with no release date in sight, and gaming industry strike action may postpone it further, delays may even exceed current estimates.
Grand Theft Auto 6 remains one of the most anticipated games ever and fans remain enthusiastic despite no announcement since February 2022. Unfortunately, with TV and film industry delays due to SAG-AFTRA strikes causing further delay for Rockstar companies such as them and potentially adding even longer wait time until its next Grand Theft Auto installment can finally arrive.
SAG-AFTRA strikes were organized as an effort for actors, writers and other industry professionals to advocate for improved treatment and pay from major studios. Within gaming industry companies with SAG-AFTRA contracts such as Activision Productions, Electronic Arts Productions, Insomniac Games Epic Games WB Games were directly affected. Furthermore a second strike planned to start September 2023 to win wage increases as well as protection against artificial intelligence would further impact games from these titles.
Since then, 27 September saw the end of 148-day writers’ strike by Writers Guild of America (WGA), when details about a new agreement were released and we could say with pride “this deal offers meaningful gains and protections to every sector of membership,” as stated on their site.
However, SAG-AFTRA strikes are separate to WGA ones and actors may remain out until an agreement can be made – this means production will stop until all actors return – which could impact many forthcoming releases, including Grand Theft Auto 6. With its estimated development costs estimated at over $2 billion dollars alone, its development may need all hands available; something which may no longer be possible with ongoing strikes.
Since GTA 6 may receive its official announcement as early as this week, development should already be well underway without being interrupted by this news. Unfortunately, with Rockstar keeping mum about their latest installment’s development status or potential launch dates for GTA 6, we can only speculate as to when we might expect its launch date to arrive.
