BioShock fans have made waves with an ambitious BioShock sequel concept set in steampunk Paris – raising expectations of what BioShock 4 could become.

BioShock 4’s development hell continues apace; its release date slips further away with no updates about where its status stands currently; with little info coming through on where things currently stand one can only imagine that there must be frustrated developers somewhere staring blankly at a whiteboard.

BioShock Infinite was released a while ago and disappointed many at launch due to expectations being much greater than what actually manifested itself in reality. While not bad by any stretch, BioShock Infinite fell far short of expectations by comparison with earlier iterations of BioShock games like 2 or 3, for which many more ambitious features had been anticipated than what actually arrived on our shelves.

As fans wait in anticipation for the latest entry to hit their shelves, some are taking matters into their own hands and creating their own games or at least their concepts for such products.

One such concept takes the series to Paris with an absolutely breathtaking steampunk aesthetic created in Unreal Engine 5 that truly dazzles.

TeaserPlay released this idea via YouTube and shows its player wandering a futuristic wonderland with the Eiffel Tower as an ancient monolith at its centre.

BioShock 4 will reportedly take place in Antarctica and is said to take place within its dome city setting – making this game in the series the first that takes place entirely on land, as its predecessors took place underwater at Rapture and in the sky with Columbia.

Fans were particularly taken with the Paris concept and would love it if a future game in the series took its cue from it.

“BioShock shows great promise as an inspiration for new games, possibly turning it into a franchise with different steampunk-themed cities as its setting.”

“Steampunk combined with Paris looks incredible; well done for making such an effort!”

“This is lovely! Unfortunately, knowing this is unofficial makes my heart break.”

While the demo was impressive, it served as yet another reminder that an official BioShock sequel may never happen.
