Steam’s latest free download of Stardew Valley with an October theme is Stardew Valley with Halloween decorations!
Life can be hard. Particularly when your dreams involve moon-worshiping vampires feasting upon moonlit corpses but must settle for being simply human. If the pull of being something more hauntingly seductive has you pining for change in life, Steam’s free download, which brings all the pleasures of Stardew Valley but with an autumn twist could just be what’s needed to satisfy these urges.
Moonlight Peaks flips the story of Dracula on its head by adding an innovative life simulation element – your character needs to convince his father of compassion coexisting with being undead, something which could prove difficult with just his family in his position. So starting a farm filled with cursed crops may just be what’s necessary!
Moonlight Peaks seeks to fill a niche that currently remains underutilised within video game: romanceable NPCs, harvestable crops and farm customisation options, as well as creatures such as mermaids and werewolves that go bump in the night – filling its story world with romanceable characters, harvestable crops, farm customisation options and an eclectic cast of romantic yet creepy NPCs and creatures like werewolves that come out after dark! Moonlight Peaks attempts to fill that void, providing us with cozy horror, without experiencing that same cozy glow sans scares or spine-tingling thrills! We’ve had cozy horror before but that same feeling without real scares or spine-tingling thrills from horror games before. Moonlight Peaks may just deliver that experience we need.
At present, Moonlight Peaks demo can be downloaded free on Steam; however, Mac users running OS 10.15 Catalina or later will require creative means in order to gain access to it. As far as release dates go, however, developer Little Chicken have yet to set an official one; though most estimates place its launch around early 2024 (missing Halloween by just months!). That being said, creepiness shouldn’t stop just because October has ended!
Moonlight Peaks already feels like one of my contenders for Game of the Year 2024 without me even finishing compiling my list! If it can match Fae Farm or Moonstone Island for charm or rustic allure, constantly comparing every farming sim to Stardew Valley may soon become irrelevant – although don’t forget that Steam also plans on offering Spirittea soon – an anime-esque life sim I plan to review here at GAMINGbible soon after its launch!
Moonlight Peaks’ demo can now be freely downloaded and played, with plans for release of both Steam and then Nintendo Switch versions at some future date. Launch date TBD.
