No one knows quite where Assassin’s Creed will lead them next; like being carried along on an ever-shifting wind, you find yourself pulled along. Sometimes this has led to high praise from AC fans while at other times they become upset enough to voice their opinions openly; today’s news falls more into the former category with praise coming for going all modern with future games in this franchise.

Fans praise Assassin’s Creed 2099 Red as being an exceptional choice that promises to take us forward into the future rather than keeping us permanently stuck in the past.

Initial indication of AC’s move into the future came when dataminer found unreleased audio of two Animus operators discussing William Miles as being from “ancient history”. Although reported, this audio appears to refer more directly to Assassin’s Creed Hexe rather than Red; nevertheless, combined with information gleaned from an anonymous inside source this seems like solid proof that AC will enter its second installment through time travel elements.

Previous AC stories set outside of the Animus have focused on present day settings; unfortunately, however, those characters and stories have since lost steam, with Valhalla and other AC titles feeling like weak links in its history. By changing up its pace and adding in entirely new cast of characters to “reboot” modern (or maybe future?) story lines with a fresh take. Shawn and Rebecca may still be great characters to look out for but I wouldn’t feel heartbroken should their time pass.”

One fan wrote, “Count me intrigued. Modern Day did begin in AC1 as “the future”, with email exchanges painting an alternative view of life outside. Mirage injects mystery back into this franchise; let’s see how it pans out!” They make an excellent point; AC has been lacking mystery recently so the sudden appearance of twists and turns through Mirage keeps the franchise interesting while simultaneously engaging and investing us as players again.

No matter what happens next, we anticipate an exciting adventure – as do other gamers – hoping that Basim won’t just as soon after making her debut “completely dropout.”
