Sony announces PlayStation 6 trademark online alongside an array of hardware.
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all are considering what lies in store for them in terms of future technology innovations as a means of staying ahead of their rivals and remaining relevant.
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch have seen incredible video game releases during this most recent console generation, making this an amazing time to be a gamer. As is usually the case when reviewing console generations as whole, at some point during each we may think: surely things can’t get any better…only to be proven wrong once new shiny consoles arrive and surpass them all in gaming experience.
More recently, Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5 Slim which will soon hit store shelves. As for future plans, we still don’t know when or if Sony plans on releasing PlayStation 6; though recent speculation suggests 2028 for release is possible according to reports by Gematsu; recent trademark registrations suggest they might plan ahead and plan not only PS6 but also other systems like PS7/89/10 in addition to it!
What does all this entail, exactly? Well, at this stage it likely means very little. Sony registered for their PlayStation 5 trademark back in 2006 yet didn’t release it until 2020 – more than likely their trademark registration has been done to prevent randoms claiming names and holding up this Japanese tech titan in ransom.
Sony usually follows an 18-21 year cycle between main console generations since 1994 and 2020 (from original PlayStation to PS5, respectively) so based on this logic the PS6 might arrive sometime between 2026-2028; PS10 might take even longer; though let us imagine, with video games looking as amazing now what might they look like by then!?
