GTA 6 may or may not be GTA 6, it could even be something completely different!
Grand Theft Auto VI may soon arrive – or will it? Fans of Rockstar Games’ popular franchise are currently wondering whether Grand Theft Auto will receive another name altogether.
Yesterday was an important day for Grand Theft Auto fans. Rockstar finally acknowledged GTA VI by confirming they’d release its trailer at some point early December – well ahead of Game Awards which fall on 7 December this year – though one fan made headlines by promising they would drink their own urine if the game were announced this week – alas it did and his pledge came true! Meanwhile Take-Two Interactive hinted towards GTA VI’s release date while Rockstar tweeted their announcement was now the most-viewed gaming-related tweet ever created since Rockstar announced GTA VI’s trailer premiered last October by promising it would drop early December this time last year during GTA V’s teaser trailer release date of 7 December last year!
Reddit user Limingeal raiseds an excellent question regarding Grand Theft Auto VI’s title: Will It Even Be Called That? According to Rockstar Games’ statement on it, Rockstar refers to it as the next Grand Theft Auto; though that might change. If that did occur though, fans likely still refer to it by its original moniker of GTA VI; we saw Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and San Andreas both opting for names instead of numbers prior to being followed up with GTA IV and GTA V so it really could go either way when it comes time.
One Reddit user noted, “GTA VI will likely be called GTA VI based upon Take-Two’s takedown request of leaks which named GTA VI,” making an excellent argument. Hisricalmoke seemed less certain of it all by writing, “You make an interesting point; however I find it strange how Take Two doesn’t announce its name even at official announcement events!”
NomNomNomNation agrees and notes: “This was also what crossed my mind: very specific wording leads me to believe this next game could very likely be GTA VI (depending on whether they keep numbering the main games, it could even feature an entirely new title format), with next month’s trailer reveal as our primary clue.”
