Starbreeze seems to still be recovering from Payday 3’s disastrous launch almost two months later.

Payday 3, released this past September, was anticipated as being an exciting installment in this much-beloved franchise. Unfortunately, its less-than-smooth launch, including multiple issues and no updates after launch caused frustration among both fans and customers alike and its developers are still offering their apology to both.

Starbreeze released an update featuring lead producer Andreas Hall-Penninger that showed this development progress.

“Many of you want to understand why this happened and what steps have been taken to prevent further issues from arising,” Hall-Penninger explained. “To keep things short and sweet: We discovered an error in our backend update pipeline immediately following launch that required intervention from technical support to fix.”

“Consequently, any update we implemented posed an elevated risk to player saves and progression. To reduce risk and ensure optimal functioning of our test environment before publishing updates – waiting too long can only cause further delay for us!” he continued.

“We apologize that Payday 3’s launch went as it did, which caused much distress for both ourselves and you, players. To address these concerns we’ve taken necessary measures so our updates won’t cause more issues than they solve – thank you again for supporting us by playing Payday 3!”

Hall-Penninger was quick to offer some comforting news as he revealed legacy heists taken directly from Payday 2 and added to Payday 3. Players can rest easy knowing these new versions have significant differences from their predecessors despite appearing similar at first glance.

“Payday 3’s mechanics differ significantly from Payday 2, so adding these heists into this third installment required us to make adjustments that fit into this new criminal dawn of heisting,” explained Williamson. “Don’t worry; these changes won’t render the heist less recognisable.”

Starbreeze appears determined to turn Payday 3 into what it should have been when first released back in September despite an uneven beginning. There’s still time!
