Even Starfield fans agree with us when we say Bethesda missed an opportunity with Starfield 2.
Reddit users who play Starfield have taken to Reddit in recent days to voice their views of Bethesda’s latest title as being something they feel was a missed opportunity. One user, known as Phohnus is taking aim at it for several issues it poses – one such being its lack of customization options for players of various classes.
“Among their issues they cited several that kept resurfacing: lack of on-planet transport, empty planets with similar environments, unimpressive smuggling performance and pirates not trying to board ships – I feel like I could go on forever”, and many could probably agree – before concluding their post with, “Anyway, I think Starfield for now.”.
Hindsight makes all my points crystal clear: this game was fine but didn’t push any boundaries, though u/ladyvanq offered this insightful analysis: “For myself personally, what ultimately killed the enjoyment was repetitive POI with zero variation – while seeing buildings or certain dead bodies repeatedly didn’t bother me, my immersion completely broke once seeing the same dead bodies, enemy placement and loot placement all too frequently was enough for it to destroy any enjoyment from playing it!”
One user, for instance, made this comment: “Great points made here… the game feels quite empty for me; too big and lacking substance to keep my interest.” Another user went further by noting how Starfield is indeed an opportunity lost; without depth needed for long term engagement it doesn’t keep their players playing for very long.
Many of the complaints against Starfield are similar; exploration feels shallow, outposts seem pointless, player homes provide no purpose and there’s little real threat; POIs also feel shallow. One player sums it all up nicely: “I’ve recently started playing Skyrim again – 12 years on it still provides plenty of entertainment value; unfortunately Starfield lacks enough content for that amount of time!”
Starfield can be found both on Xbox Series X/S and PC platforms, with Xbox Game Pass subscribers enjoying access for no additional fee.
