Turok fans are hoping for an updated console reboot to enjoy on modern consoles.
Fans of Turok have long desired that its IP be brought up-to-date for modern consoles, and we certainly understand their anticipation.
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was released all the way back in 1997, while its reboot in 2008 followed shortly afterwards. I admit I belong to Gen Z; back then I likely played High School Musical 2: Work This Out or The Sims 2: Apartment Life instead. As I hadn’t quite taken to shooters yet in 1997, and certainly wasn’t playing them much or at all then – in retrospect I can appreciate just what an incredible hit Turok is; developed and published by Propaganda Games under Disney Interactive Studios’s guidance. Players played as space marine Joseph Turok who was sent to an isolated planet to apprehend General Roland Kane – his former commanding officer from years earlier! However, Propaganda Games closed immediately post-release, thus distancing any chances for sequel development to ever take place.
Turok was far from a bad reboot; unfortunately though it failed to elicit critical praise like its predecessor Turok: Dinosaur Hunter did. On social media fans expressed their desire for another chance with the franchise by writing, “Where’s my Turok reboot?!,” one Twitter user asked while adding in another thread “Get some Native American actors, kickass dinosaurs and weird alien shenanigans and fund this.”
Tenacious_diaz suggests “a Doom 2016 style Turok reboot”, while late90zkid made similar comments regarding needing “a fresh reboot – Turok can become iconic like Doom Guy”, though in most instances these decisions depend on who owns the copyright to an IP.
No doubt a reboot won’t happen anytime soon; but never rule it out entirely! Studios are already revisiting older IPs in this nostalgic-centric time; let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best!
