Fallout 3’s graphics overhaul looks even better than Fallout 4.
Bethesda has provided gamers with many wonderful gaming memories over time – be it from The Elder Scrolls, Fallout or another title from its publisher altogether.
Fallout 3, the post-apocalyptic RPG from 2008, stands out amongst its best video games ever created as my personal favourite in its series. Fallout 3 allows players to explore Washington D.C either above ground or underground; from finding intriguing NPCs and deadly enemies all the way to side missions that make for even greater replay value than its main campaign itself!
Fallout 3 has now been out for 15 years and, at least visually, it is starting to show its age. Even its successor Fallout 4, released in 2015 wasn’t much improved over its predecessor – although Bethesda announced in 2017 they’ll provide new-gen upgrades for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S – although these updates were recently delayed until 2024!
Now we know there’s no plan in place for Fallout 3, surely we don’t anticipate seeing it remastered? However, leaked Microsoft documents indicate otherwise as leaks suggest Bethesda may release an updated Fallout 3 game within months – though nothing official has yet been said about this happening yet! Luckily a talented modder is on board already with his Fallout 3 graphics overhaul mod which rivals that of Fallout 4.
Nexusmods now hosts the Fallout 3 HD Overhaul mod by creator Luxor807; featuring textures ranging from 1K-8K in resolution. While its results are stunning, unfortunately this mod can only run on PC systems for now.
“This looks so real I thought it was Fallout 4!” exclaimed one user on the mod page, as commented upon by Gurleygirl: “Truly amazing how you have managed to make an old 32-bit game look this good; excellent work.” In response to that sentiment came Wyrnox who replied in admiration; this mod “looks incredible – simply breathtakingly done”.
Fallout 3 can be played across PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms; backward compatible with modern Xbox consoles and included as part of Xbox Game Pass with all its DLC. Furthermore, PlayStation Plus Premium subscription tier also makes available this experience.
