PlayStation Plus Free Horror Recognized As “Underrated and Worth Playing for Resident Evil Fans
PlayStation Plus provides something for all kinds of gamer, no matter their genre – be it exploration, combating enemy squads or crafting to your hearts’ content; even horror is catered for – something we will discuss today in depth!
Many gamers associate survival horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill as being at the pinnacle of this subgenre; but what if there was another option available that combined elements from each? Enter Bethesda’s The Evil Within series as your way in!
Tango Gameworks and Resident Evil series creator Shinji Mikami brought The Evil Within into 2014 for Tango Gameworks to develop. While its slower pace might not appeal to everyone, I found myself enjoying its survival horror goodness immensely (thankfully not literally)! Creative monsters, an engaging story, creepy environments and resource management features made this an indispensable game; although I sometimes found himself gassed out after sprinting so briefly! Unfortunately this could sometimes irritate players further!
In 2017, The Evil Within 2 made its debut and promised to improve on its predecessor in every way possible, from detective Seb being able to sprint a bit longer to offering an open map sandbox where players could explore for crafting resources, secrets and side stories – although reception among fans of genre was mixed at best.
Redditor CA-22 recently asked The Evil Within 2’s Redditors what their verdict on it is, since she recently played all REmakes back-to-back and wanted more horror games like Alan Wake 2. Although CA-22 wasn’t fond of The Original The Evil Within at all but she wanted to know if any had played and thought otherwise of The Evil Within 2.
“HELL YES!! One of my all-time favourite games ever!” wrote CosmicWanderer2814 in response. wagimus also noted how “The Evil Within had great aspects, but too many other elements I didn’t care for; The Evil Within 2 does nearly everything significantly better; Played back-to-back with RE2 remake and found I liked both equally well”.
“The Evil Within 2 is unarguably superior, especially considering it was so underrated due to people not giving it another try after its predecessor was so unforgivably flawed. Even now it holds up well – I just replayed it last year!” exclaimed VenusNoleyPoley2.
The Evil Within and its 2017 sequel are now available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, with both titles included as part of Xbox Game Pass as well as Extra and Premium PS Plus subscription tiers if applicable. So if survival horror is your cup of tea and you subscribe to either service, be sure to give these games a look-see.
