God of War Ragnarok Faces Steam Review Bombing
Once again, Steam users are expressing frustration over a PlayStation first-party game on the platform due to a PSN account requirement. This time, God of War Ragnarok is being review-bombed by PC players, who are unhappy about needing to log into a PlayStation Network account to play the game.
God of War Ragnarok currently holds a “Mixed” rating on Steam, as the review bombs continue to pour in over this mandatory PSN log-in. One sarcastic negative review reads: “I love having to sign in to PSN to play a single-player game. I’m glad you didn’t learn a single thing from what happened with Helldivers 2.”
Earlier in 2024, Helldivers 2 faced a similar backlash for adding a PSN sign-in requirement after the game had already launched on PC. However, after the outcry, Sony decided to cancel the mandatory sign-in for Helldivers 2. In God of War Ragnarok’s case, the PSN requirement was disclosed well before its PC release, so the response is more preemptive. The game launched on Steam last week, and Sony made it clear from the outset that a PSN account would be necessary to play.
As Sony continues to bring more PlayStation titles to PC, players can expect this PSN log-in trend to continue. The upcoming Until Dawn remake, for instance, will also require a PSN account for both Steam and the Epic Games Store versions.
Despite the frustration over the log-in requirement, God of War Ragnarok on PC offers several enhancements, such as unlocked frame rates and ultra-widescreen monitor support. Additionally, the PC version includes some quality-of-life improvements, including less frequent companion dialogue.
Meanwhile, Sony Santa Monica is reportedly working on a new project outside of the God of War series, though no official details have been released.
