Overwatch 2 Revives GOATS Meta in New Overwatch: Classic Event
*Overwatch 2* has officially launched its third *Overwatch: Classic* event, taking players back to the infamous GOATS meta of 2018. The event, available now through April 7, recreates the three-tank, three-support team composition that dominated competitive play back in the day. This includes heroes like Moira, Brigitte, and Wrecking Ball, who were introduced during the GOATS era.
*Overwatch: Classic* is a limited-time event that revisits iconic moments in the original *Overwatch* game. Previous events have brought back the 2016 release version and the 2017 Mercy-centric “Moth Meta.” This time, *GOATS* returns with 6v6 matches, where timing ultimates is crucial for success. Maps like Blizzard World, Rialto, and Busan are featured, and hero balance is adjusted to September 2018’s meta.
The GOATS composition, known for its heavy tank and support lineup, was effective but criticised for leading to static gameplay and limiting hero options. Despite its polarising nature, the GOATS meta played a role in the introduction of Role Queue in *Overwatch*, a feature that continues to shape gameplay today.
For fans seeking a 6v6 experience without the GOATS meta, Competitive Play offers Open Queue 6v6 with a two-tank limit until Season 16 begins on April 22.
