Nintendo Addresses Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Performance on Switch 2
Nintendo has assured players that *The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom* will perform better on the Switch 2 compared to the original Switch, with fewer frame rate drops. However, the Autobuild feature, particularly when loaded with multiple weapons, may still push the console’s limits.
During the April 2 Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that both *Breath of the Wild* and *Tears of the Kingdom* will receive performance upgrades for the Switch 2, including 4K resolution and 60 FPS in Docked Mode. These upgrades will be available for $9.99 each, though Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers can access them for free.
Nate Bihldorff, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Product Development, shared his positive experience playing both upgraded Zelda games on the Switch 2. He highlighted improvements in areas like Korok Forest, where the original Switch struggled with frame rate drops, especially during the day. On the Switch 2, Bihldorff found the forest to be rendered smoothly, calling it “absolute wizardry” that the original Switch could run it at all.
While the Switch 2 significantly improves the performance of both Zelda games, Bihldorff warned that *Tears of the Kingdom’s* Autobuild feature could still challenge the system when too many complex objects are loaded at once. The upgraded versions of *Breath of the Wild* and *Tears of the Kingdom* will be available on June 5, alongside the Switch 2 launch.
