New PlayStation Portal Update Brings Key Features and Improvements
Sony has rolled out a new system software update for the PlayStation Portal, enhancing its cloud streaming capabilities with several requested features. The update, available now, aims to improve the overall user experience for PS Portal owners, particularly those using the cloud streaming beta.
Since its launch in late 2023, the PS Portal has been a hit for Sony, despite initial concerns over its functionality. As an accessory for the PS5, it lacked cloud streaming support at launch, which disappointed many users. However, the November 2024 rollout of a PS Portal Cloud Streaming beta for PS Plus Premium subscribers was a significant step forward.
This new update brings several improvements. Users can now sort the cloud game catalog by release date, name, or recent additions, making it easier to browse the library. The update also introduces the ability to capture gameplay while streaming, with screenshots and video clips uploaded to the cloud for later access.
Other notable changes include improved session management. Players can now pause cloud-streamed games and put the PS Portal into rest mode, though the connection will disconnect after 15 seconds. If a session is idle for 10 minutes, users will receive a warning before the game session ends. A new queue screen displays estimated wait times when servers are crowded, and a feedback system allows players to rate their experience.
While the PS Portal’s cloud streaming features are still in beta, this update shows Sony’s commitment to improving the service, with more features and supported games likely on the horizon.
**PS Portal April 2025 Update Highlights:**

This update brings the PS Portal closer to fulfilling its potential as a go-to device for cloud gaming on the go.
