Stardew Valley Dev Reveals Official Pronunciation of Mr. Qi’s Name

Stardew Valley creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has officially confirmed the pronunciation of the mysterious character Mr. Qi’s name—it’s “Kwee.”

The clarification came during an interview on the *TigerBelly* podcast, where host Bobby Lee asked Barone about the pronunciation. While fans have long debated whether it was “Ki,” “Chee,” or even just “Q,” Barone confirmed it’s “Kwee,” though he also emphasized that players can pronounce it however they prefer.

Mr. Qi is one of Stardew Valley’s most enigmatic characters, known for observing the player’s actions and offering mysterious challenges, but not forming a traditional in-game relationship. Barone also briefly discussed Mr. Qi’s blue skin, suggesting the character became extraordinary by choice after being born an ordinary child.

Although some fans were surprised—or even displeased—by the pronunciation, Barone admitted he expected mixed reactions and doesn’t mind if players stick with their own versions.

With this long-standing question finally answered, many Stardew Valley mysteries still remain, leaving fans to continue their search for hidden secrets throughout the valley.
