Mojang Shares the Stories Behind Minecraft’s Most Iconic Bugs
Mojang has revealed how some of Minecraft’s most famous bugs came to be, shedding light on the game’s long and quirky development history. In a recent video on the official Minecraft YouTube channel, developers including lead designer Jeb explained how several well-known glitches were discovered—and in some cases, inspired future features.
Minecraft’s vast sandbox world has always been prone to bugs, with its evolving complexity making unexpected issues inevitable. One notable example includes minecart glitches that allowed players to create speed boosts by running two carts side by side, which eventually led to the official introduction of powered rails.
The squid mob also caused unexpected problems. Originally created from the cow model, it retained milking behavior by mistake, allowing players to milk squids early in the game’s development. Squids later became known for another infamous bug that made them fly due to faulty movement code—an issue that became legendary in Minecraft’s early days.
