Volition Once Developed Baldur’s Gate-Style Harry Potter RPG Before Hogwarts Legacy

Volition, the developer behind the *Saints Row* series, once worked on a Baldur’s Gate-style *Harry Potter* RPG that was ultimately scrapped, according to recent revelations. The game, which aimed to offer a deep, top-down RPG experience set in the wizarding world, was reportedly in development before the release of *Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone* in 2001.

Footage of the abandoned project was shared during a tour at The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York. The footage, shown by museum director Andrew Borman, featured PS1-era graphics, with Harry and Hagrid exploring an unfinished town. The game’s environment and character models were described as resembling a top-down RPG similar to *Baldur’s Gate*.

This revelation offers a glimpse into what could have been an interesting take on the Harry Potter franchise. Fans are now comparing this lost project to *Hogwarts Legacy*, which has become the latest successful *Harry Potter* RPG, captivating players since its release. The game is set to be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 in June 2025, alongside other major titles.

While Volition’s *Harry Potter* RPG never saw the light of day, the legacy of magical RPGs continues with upcoming releases like *Hogwarts Legacy* and the *Harry Potter* reboot series from HBO.
