Yo gamers in Canada, bad news incoming. Nintendo just said they’re gonna raise prices on a bunch of Switch stuff. That means consoles, games, accessories, and even the Nintendo Switch Online memberships. They’re saying it’s because of “market conditions” which sounds like code for things are getting more expensive.
So yeah, prices are going up for the regular Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch Lite. Accessories too. Also physical and digital games, plus amiibos. Basically almost everything is getting a price change.
But don’t freak out just yet. The new Switch 2 is safe for now. No price hike on that one or its accessories and games.
They didn’t say exactly when the changes are hitting, but they will update the prices on Nintendo’s Canadian store starting August 1st. So you can expect the changes to kick in around that time.
This is all happening while there’s still tension going on with trade stuff between the US and Canada. Earlier this year, Nintendo paused their Switch 2 launch in both countries because of those issues. They didn’t raise the price of the Switch 2 but some accessories did go up in the US.
Now they’re saying more price changes could happen later depending on how the market goes. So it’s kind of a wait and see thing.
Also it’s not just Nintendo doing this. Sony raised PS5 prices a few months back because of the economy. Then Microsoft did the same with Xbox and even made some games cost 80 dollars now. Sony also said they might raise prices again if needed.
So yeah, it’s a rough time for gamers’ wallets. If you’re in Canada, maybe grab your games and gear before the prices jump.
