What’s next for Keith Lee?
Keith Lee, formerly renamed “Bearcat”, has been released by WWE. This comes as WWE is trying to rebuild their momentum after the pandemic. Since joining the main roster in 2020, Lee has been one the most talked about WWE stars. Keith Lee, who was first to hold the NXT Championship as well as the North American Championship, was the first wrestler to do so. He had defeated the Undisputed Era’s dominant head at the Great American Bash. After his win over Randy Orton his first night, all signs pointed to Lee being a major player on the main roster.
Keith Lee kept his promise and was poised to be the United States Champion. He also flirted with the WWE Championship scene in the new year. But that was not to be. After a brief absence, Lee returned to the ring but was slowed by a lack of momentum and an identity crisis.
WWE didn’t know what Keith Lee wanted to be, whether a big-hearted heel or a giant. They settled on the “Bearcat” gimmick. He would toss around smaller wrestlers and shout incoherently.
He didn’t succeed, but it wasn’t for lack of trying. Fans were not willing to accept this new version of the NXT Champion. Wrestling fans know Keith Lee’s strength lies in his ability to keep the whole audience in his palm with an almost unrivalled level of charisma and charm. The big man can do amazing things, which is why he has a gimmick to limit the ‘Limitless’ to biel throws or big splashes.
