MARVEL’S EPISODE 6 REVIEW – ALL HAIL THE KINGPIN

Hawkeye has wrapped up an exciting year in the MCU. It has been a good choice to set the show around holidays. The holiday themes are so well-integrated into the show’s DNA that it doesn’t seem to need any further explanation. As a special treat, Vincent D’onofrio’s performance as Kingpin is back. Finally, we get to acknowledge the MCU Netflix shows. It’ll make Daredevil fans happy. This finale also brings holiday cheer.

Hawkeye streaming on Disney+ the last week’s review is available if you missed it.

STORY: STARTING THE ACTION

Many story beats and small moments are beautifully retold in the final. It isn’t easy to believe that Hawkeye was meant to be a movie. This feels exactly like the last act we’d see in theaters. The Bishop’s Christmas Eve party is the stage, something we’ve been talking about since the beginning of the series. We have a goal to stop Kingpin’s assassination and save Eleanor. Because Natasha died, Yelena continues to pursue Clint. Although this episode lacks a plot, it is still a fast-paced story.

It’s not a bad thing that we are getting thrown at too many things, but because of all the actions. During the Christmas party, many references and bits from previous episodes are paid off. Anyone interested in this show will be happy to see the many trick arrows that the LARPers use. It also sets up an Echo spin-off, which is a good thing. Although it doesn’t take much time on screen, episode 5 did a lot in the hour. It just smoothed out the edges.

CHARACTERS & PERFORMANCE – KINGPIN RETURNS

It’s the moment everyone has been waiting for. Finally, we get to see the Kingpin return. Vincent D’onofrio continues to be the MCU’s best villain. We only saw him briefly in the last episode as a blurry photo, but he is in a few scenes. (Name) is the only one who has access to the screen. You feel shivers in your spine when you see him. Kingpin is also well-dressed and dignified.

I know that many of Netflix’s Daredevil fans will be disappointed to learn that he isn’t the same person we last saw. This is Hawkeye. His role on this show will be to surprise the big bad. That’s all. Because he is not the main character, we won’t see the depth of character we are used to. This is similar to the role he played in season 2 of Daredevil. Fisk only appears in a few episodes, but he is very present. Similar to Hawkeye. This threat is made more deadly by Fisk’s context and the scene he is portrayed.

Our archer team balances the villain threat. It’s cliché at this point to mention how great they are together. Clint truly enjoys Kate and accepts her as a partner2. It was interesting to see how they ended their relationship. Fans were expecting a traditional passing of the torch. But it didn’t end that way. The MCU looks bright as long as we can see them in action.

CINEMATOGRAPHY AND SOUND: COMBINE COMICS & MOVIES

They tried to make Netflix’s Daredevil as real as possible. It felt like Hawkeye took advantage of Kingpin’s faithful comic adaptation. Wilson Fisk’s physical stature was the same. However, Wilson Fisk looked larger than life in shots. It looked almost like an artist had drawn it, with the menacing purple glow that he cast against the low angle of his sitting down. The episode also featured his cane and the bizarre Hawaiian outfit he once wore.

Kingpin’s layout was comical, and all the action felt like a movie. It was a great choice to have it at the Bishop Christmas party and then out in public at Rockefeller Center. It was a great party that established all the necessary elements and stakes. Once the action gets rolling, you’ll be hooked until the very end. Clint and Kate take down the Tracksuit Mafia using only the bows on their backs. This is the best part. This will prove to anyone that Hawkeye should be included in the Avengers. I won’t spoil the story, but the episode with the Rockefeller Christmas tree made me scream with laughter.

It’s still unbelievable that this happened.

EDITING AND PACING: THE RIGHT PHASE THIS WHOLE TIME

While watching Hawkeye, the main concern that I had was how they would end it all. Although it seemed to grow each week, the final resolution would have been a lot of pressure. Even with a major character, this hour was a lot of work. Kingpin’s presence helped move the criminal conspiracy plot along, while Eleanor was involved in the Bishop family drama. Kingpin is also involved with Echo, and the fallout of the last episode helped tie everything together.
