“Battlefield 2042” Parody Game “Clownfield2042” Has Better Reviews than The Original
Battlefield 4042 has had a slow start. EA and DICE’s futuristic military shooter failed to launch due to bugs and glitches. This led to negative user reviews.
Battlefield 4042 remains one of the most poorly-reviewed Steam games ever. It currently has a “Mostly Negative” ranking based upon over 80,000 user reviews. It has a Metacritic score of 2.2. Yikes.
DICEis working to fix Battlefield 2_ but has suffered a severe blow to its reputation. As if that wasn’t enough, a parody version of the game has been released on Steam. It is already receiving better reviews.
Steam is not new to parody games. There are many quick money-grabs on Steam that rip off recent releases like Resident Evil Village and Cyberpunk 2077. However, it is rare, if not impossible, for a game like this to be better-respected by its creators than the original.
This is exactly what happened with Clownfield 2042. It’s a cheap-and–cheerful new shooter that was meant to be a flagrant piss-take on Battlefield 2042.
The Steam description states that Clownfield2042 is an FPS in which you play the role of a unique soldier and are equipped with six weapons to defeat enemy forces. “After the 2022 cryptocrash, most nations fell apart and a “No-Clowns” union was formed. If you are one of them arm up and prepare for war.
It promises features such as “unoptimized experiences”, three maps and “plenty bugs”.
The developer says that they will let you enjoy them “as is” and addresses any issues you may encounter. “And we won’t fix them. We’ll just release new skins.”
Clownfield2042 currently has a “Very positive” rating based upon over 1000 reviews. Users seem to agree that it is a meme and has more value than Battlefield.
One user observed, “More thought. More love. More dedication.
“You can walk on water and snipe with shotgun or hover with your craft. Smooth RTX ON gameplay,” added one. “That’s Battlefield 2042 that we’ve been waiting.”
