Twitter corrects Mike Shinoda on how NFTs can be used in gaming
Unrelated to a tweet by Mike Shinoda, founder of Linkin Park and a well-known gaming fan, about gaming NFTs and how their owners could use them, a Twitter battle broke out.
On January 8th 2022, Shinoda posted that he was shocked by the “negative sentiment” about NFTs from the gaming community. He then shared his thoughts on the reasons behind this and invited others to comment. The comments section was filled with discussion about the various opinions on NFTs in gaming. Shinoda posted his responses to some of the points raised, but one particular point stood out and sparked a new debate.

Shinoda was wrong about NFTs, and developers jumped in to correct him. They also helped Shinoda and other Twitter users to understand why it is impossible to transfer visuals from one video game to another just because you own it. This thread, written by Xavier Coelho-Kostolny and worked on Marvel’s Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank, is well-worth a read.
Shinoda posted “a few corrections and some new ideas” to the conversation. However, this shows the power of Twitter and other social platforms to create healthy debates and educate people when new conversations arise.
