Blizzard Announces New Survival IP Amidst Ongoing Controversy

Blizzard has been in the headlines a lot lately. There have been sexual harassment lawsuits and investors sueing the company. Walkouts also took place, and then there was the Microsoft purchase of the company for almost $70 billion. Bobby Kotick, Activision Blizzard CEO, wanted more control over the story surrounding the company. His bid to buy a major media outlet failed. Blizzard chose to announce a new IP.

The announcement is more of a job recruiting pitch and is accompanied with 11 open positions ranging from senior character artist to software engineer.

The announcement stated that Blizzard was embarking on its next quest. “We are embarking on a journey into a new universe, home for a brand-new survival video game for PC or console.

It continued: “A place full o’ heroes, stories to be told, adventures to be had, and heroes to be met.” There is a vast world of possibilities waiting to be discovered.

This is admittedly a bit misleading, as it doesn’t tell you much about what to expect. Below is a job-recruitment image that shows a human in wolf armour with the caption “Unannounced Survival Game.”

“Do survival games appeal to you?” The post says so. “Would you like to be part of a team of experienced developers in the initial stages of a new project in an entirely new world…and write the next chapter of Blizzard’s story?”

Activision Blizzard also saw the Raven Software QA Team end their lengthy strike in a “sign of good faith” in hopes that the company would recognize their new union.
