This year, a new single-player ‘Witcher” game is coming out
CD Project is the developer of The Witcher III Wild Hunt. He has been busy with the franchise for the past few years. The team started hints last November that the sequel to the beloved open-world action RPG, aptly named The Witcher 4, would be developed in 2022. Later, the team would be increasing multiplayer and live services for The Witcher series. This suggests they will be a significant part of the next game.
CD Projekt isn’t the only company looking to implement more online multiplayer and live service into its games. Sony announced recently that it is exploring adding more live service games to its PlayStation. This is a brand best known for its single-player games. It aims to add at least ten online multiplayer games to its console by 2026.
The Witcher seems to be trying the old switcheroo. The main game, which is a single-player experience, is moving online. However, the online multiplayer card game Gwent will remain online. IGN revealed that work began on a single-player version of Gwent under the codename ‘Project Golden Nekker’. This was in addition to its position on Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 4.
Vladimir Vorontsov, Gwent’s gaming director, hinted at the new project. “We want to reveal stuff that we’re currently working on, – I’m really excited for this project coming together and hope you enjoy it as much as me.”
Pawel Burza, Gwent’s Communications Leader, explained how Project Golden Nekker would be different from Gwent and any other game. “It’s not another Witcher Tales game, but something else. – We aim to provide a captivating single player for players who prefer it to competitive multiplayer Gwent.”.
