Sifu: Unlock the True Ending
is a good roguelike. However, it doesn’t end after you beat the boss. There’s also a hidden true ending that will wrap up the game in a bow. It’s not clear how to unlock the true ending. This article will tell you everything you need to know to unlock Sifu’s true ending.
What is the True Ending?
Sifu’s first “half” is about revenge against your father and the five martial arts masters who are the game’s bosses. After completing the levels and defeating Yang, the player character realizes that revenge is not the right path and must instead follow the principles and values of “wide”, which literally means “martial morality”. You need to be kind to all bosses. A true martial artist doesn’t have to kill his opponents to win. It is time to end the bloodshed.
What is the True Ending Path?
You need to go through the entire game again, going through each of the levels and finally taking on the boss fights. The fights are identical, but the parameters of success have been slightly altered. You should complete phase one as usual, but you will want to focus on structure damage instead of regular damage.
After you have broken down your opponent’s structures, resist the temptation to hit a triangle or circle to immediately take them down. Trust me, it is difficult to resist the urge to hit triangle and circle to instantly take them down. You can only do so by restarting the level and trying again. Frustrating is not the right word. But persevere. The boss will comment offhand if you break their structure but refuse to end the fight. You’ll find their structure gauge almost broken, so you can break it again. You’ll get one step closer to the real ending by playing a short scene.
After you have defeated the four bosses, which you may be able to do in any order we are not certain of, it is time to go to The Sanctuary to face Yang. It’s the same procedure: you reach phase 2, break his structure, leave him alone, and then again to make it work. Yang will now enter the third phase, where he will throw everything at you without any health bars. You can’t seem to die in this phase, so try your best to parry, break his structure, and hit takedown whenever you have the chance.
How to Reach the True End
Sifu’s true ending revolves around breaking down the structure to save the game’s bosses. Parrying will be your greatest asset when it comes time to reach the right conclusion. It is important to follow the original run’s instructions for acquiring the parry upgraded, especially against Yang who can be a nightmare to deal with at times.
Most of the time, the process of taking on bosses is the same as normal. Strikes have a double effect on structure. The most obvious is that any health damage can also impact structure. While whining at a boss will get you closer to your goal, it also helps the boss’ structure recover faster when they are in lower health.
Once they’ve done enough damage to their structure and health, you can use parries to further weaken them. Then, let them rest while they recover. Next, go for the spare. You’ll soon be able to enjoy Sifu’s true ending in no time.
