SWAT Team Arrests Family and Popular Streamer Mid-Broadcast
Popular Hearthstonestreamer Alexandra “Alliestrasza” Macpherson took to social media to assure her fans that she was okay after an armed team raided her home and placed her family in handcuffs during the broadcast.
Macpherson hosted an earlier Just Chatting stream, where she reconnected with viewers after a short break from Twitch. Macpherson was interrupted by an armed police officer responding to a phone call just over an hour in.
You probably already know what happened here. “Swatting” refers to an extremely dangerous and stupid prank in which armed police are sent to someone’s home under pretences.
It’s not a joke. People have been killed by swatting. This is probably obvious to anyone with more brain cells than two. What do you expect to happen if you send gun people to someone’s home and tell them that the person in the house is dangerous?
Macpherson’s family was unharmed. She answered the door and returned to the stream several moments later to inform her viewers that she was swatted. The room was searched by armed police a few minutes later.
After a long period of worrying silence, Macpherson returned to the stream to turn it off and let her viewers know she was okay. “I’m going to turn the stream off now. She explained that the very kind officers are at the house and will take a report on the crime. “I’m okay. We are all handcuffed and Everything. All is fine. I’m going to leave and speak with you guys later.
She posted a follow up on Twitter a little later. She wrote, “Everything is okay. She wrote that she was a bit nervous. “The officers were fantastic and handled Everything well. They had to take the threat seriously, so they took our entire family outside.
After determining that the threat was not real, we spoke to them and gave them the context of how this sometimes happens to twitch streamers. However, the number of resources that were diverted there was staggering.”
Numerous streamers continue to struggle with the setting. Felix’ xQc” Lengyel was so upset last year that he had to move. Macpherson doesn’t know who she might have been swatted by, so for the moment, she will hope it doesn’t happen again.
