The Evil Dead Games – Ranking from Worst to Best
It’s fantastic that it takes twice as long to rank the Evil Dead games, considering how transformative and inspiring Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead franchise has proven to be for horror over the past four decades. The movies are horror classics, and the beloved TV series add to their fanbase. However, we have had very few Evil Dead games.
Although they are a lot of fun, Evil Dead’s video games have been mediocre to disappointing at best. They are authentic to the franchise, with Bruce Campbell always willing to play Ash Williams, but the Evil Dead games have a much higher quality than the fully fleshed-out adaptations of the de facto gonzo horror show.
They are almost all disposable, however. A new asymmetric multiplayer horror video game will be released in 2022. It’s time to rank Evil Dead games from worst to most. NOTE – We do not include all the Evil Dead mobile games as they are currently unavailable.

6. Evil Dead: Virtual Nightmare
This is confusing: Evil Dead Virtual Nightmare, an Oculus exclusive, is a VR port for a mobile game called Evil Dead Endless Nightmare. It was then re-released on mobile as Evil Dead Extended Nightmare following the release of Evil Dead Virtual Nightmare. Virtual Nightmare’s weirdness is its greatest strength.
Virtual Nightmare is a very ordinary run and gunner, using the license more as a skin than anything meaningful. It feels like a game that was made to be something else to tie in for the soft reboot 2013. You’ve probably played Into the Dead.
It allows you to explore some parts of the cabin, but it lacks depth. This is, combined with an inherent repetition, and a superficial appreciation of the IP, makes this a VR adaptation that you will soon forget.
5. Evil Dead: Hail to the King
Evil Dead: Hail To The King, the first game in the THQ Trilogy, is the most missed opportunity of all Evil Dead games. It’s Resident Evil Dead with Ash returning to the famous cabin in the forest. It’s hard to screw that up, right! Unfortunately, Hail to King.
Although Hail to King does have the hallmarks of survival horror, it feels more like it’s making a half-baked impression. The poor camera, unintuitive controls, and some very difficult combat make Hail to King feel sloppy and uninspired.
However, it’s not all bad. Hail to King is a great example of Evil Dead’s look and feel. There’s even an Ash button. It’s a shame that it didn’t all come together to create something truly extraordinary.
