Disney Attacked By Parents Group For Putting ‘Daredevil’ On Disney Plus
Many people forget that Disney bought Marvel 12 year ago and since then Iron Man is a Disney Princess.
Although the second sentence may be controversial, it is true that Mickey Mouse is the big daddy of all Marvel’s superheroes for a long time. However, this doesn’t mean all Marvel products have to be dependent on Disney’s platforms. Many people will be familiar with the to very recently many superhero TV shows that graced the Netflix library.
But, shows such as Daredevil and Jessica Jones, along with Luke Cage, will be moving to Disney+, Disney’s streaming service. This is a new era in Disney’s streaming services. Some of these shows, like Daredevil have mature ratings.
Disney has taken steps to ease the transition. It will offer parents more options to modify the settings or filter out inappropriate content on the day that the older shows will be added to the service. This doesn’t seem to be a significant change for parents.
According to comic book Tim Winter, president of Parents Television And Media Council, released a statement discrediting Disney’s decision.
“The Walt Disney Company has been associated with Family Friendly for more than 98 years. I don’t know of any other American corporation that has been built on the backs and wallets of families and parents more strongly than the Walt Disney Company. Disney Plus, the company’s name-brand streaming service, was logically promoted as family-friendly. Parents have trusted Disney to deliver.
“It seems complete ‘off-brand” for Disney Plus to include TV-MA or R-rated programming on this platform, ostensibly in order to increase subscription revenues.” What about live striptease performances at Disney World’s Fantasyland?
Are there any strippers at Disney World? It is impossible for Disney to do it, but we can dream big?
Disney defends that these Marvel shows are not the first adult-only content on Disney+. Many movies with a mature rating are available, including those from the Aliens or Predator franchises. Winter must have completely missed them and so much other content, and wanted people like us to pay him attention…
