EA Takes “Valuable Lessons from ‘2042’ Failure to Develop a New Battlefield Game
It’s not clear that anyone can say Battlefield 2204 was a complete success. It was probably one of those releases that fell harder than it should due to the hype surrounding the release, but it’s clear that the unfinished, buggy state it was presented in was very poor.
With this in mind, I don’t know if it’s good news or not. EA CICE appears to be moving on to the next instalment of the series. This is according to an industry insider Tom Henderson’s new report on Xfire, who has been known to provide reliable information about Battlefield.
According to reports, the next Battlefield game has entered its pre-production stage and many DICE have started working on it, even though it’s only four months since 2042 was released (which still lacks a lot of the promised content). Henderson points out that this is the industry standard and that there’s still a “strong and committed” team working on 2042.
According to reports, the series’ latest title was called “miss”, but an insider claimed that valuable lessons were learned. “I think we will be reverting many of the changes made in Battlefield,” they stated.
It’s not surprising that devs might be reversing some of the recently introduced changes. EA released a statement earlier in the month stating that they have a lot of plans to improve Battlefield2042‘s gameplay experience. These include cutting the 128-player lobby down to 64 and future maps that will be smaller and draw inspiration from older games in the series. It’s unlikely that anyone will complain about this.
This information is not official at the moment. However, assuming it is true, we will likely wait a while before we see any concrete details. We’ll wait to see if the Battlefield2042 updates are positive and if so hope that they will be applied to the next instalment in the series. Henderson claims it has a “modern/near-future setting” so it will likely be called Battlefield 2030. You heard it here first if that turns out to be true.
