As a response to fan backlash, Major New Feature Added to 5
Sony’s announcement of PlayStation Plus last week didn’t go down as well as hoped.
The new PlayStation Plus sounds amazing on paper. It has multiple tiers and offers access to classic games. It’s being criticized on many fronts.
For sure, gamers aren’t thrilled at the fact that the long-awaited release of PS1 and PS2 games has been locked behind the highest PlayStation Plus subscription tier. This is especially true for those who already own these games and want to be able to play them on the latest PlayStation system.
Other people have mocked Sony because it cannot get PS3 games to run on PS4 or PS5 except via cloud streaming in selected territories. Sony’s PS3’s architecture has been so different; in other words, it is a hot mess that it has not been able to get its games to work on the newer consoles.
Games Beat reporter Jeff Grubb claims that Sony is investigating a way to emulate PS3 on PS5 at the hardware level. It wants to be able to play these games without the need to stream them.
Experts agree that it is possible to make PS3 games work on PS5, but it will require a lot more time and money.
“Since we’ve been talking about this for the past week, I have looked and asked – it seems like Sony might be working to emulate PS3 on PS5,” Grubb explained via VGC. It may take some time. They should come out and tell me that. Tell us you care about this stuff. It was what was missing in the PS Plus announcement. It seemed like they didn’t care at all about it. They put it together and gave it a new name. Then they sold it.
It remains to be seen if this feature will ever see the light of day, but it is encouraging to know that Sony has listened to our complaints and is doing something about it.
