Amber Heard was the DC Extended Universe’s first actress as Mera in 2017’s Justice League. She would then star with Jason Momoa in 2018’s Aquaman. It has been revealed that the actor’s time in comic books was cut short.

It is currently in progress and ready for release in 2023. Momoa, Heard and James Wan are back on board. Puck has released a new report that claims that Warner Bros. initially decided not to take Heard’s option on the DCsequel due to “chemistry concerns”.

According to the report Warner Bros. was worried about Heard’s lack of chemistry with Momoa in the original movie. It is not clear if Heard would have been recast or if Mera would have been cut entirely. We do know that the movie ended in favour of Heard, who will be starring in the sequel as planned.

This information was available in advance of Johnny Depp’s $50 million defamation case against his ex-wife Heard. It opened in Virginia this week.

Heard is being sued by the actor, aged 58, over a 2018 article published in The Washington Post where Heard discussed her experiences with domestic violence. Although Depp is not mentioned in the feature, Heard later accused him of domestic violence. These claims have been denied by Depp.

Depp requested that the lawsuit be continued in Virginia. The Virginia judge granted his request. Heard had tried to dismiss the case before on the grounds of Depp’s UK libel suit against The Sun newspaper. In 2018, the UK tabloid had called Depp a “wife-beater”, a claim which Depp contested in court. A High Court judge eventually ruled that the claim was “substantially correct” and that Depp “did assault Ms. Heard”.

Fairfax County Chief Judge Penney Azcarate denied the actress’s request. Heard’s op ed contained statements that were “inherently different” from those in The Sun.
