Who is the Nightmare Hiding in H.E.L.M. Destiny 2:
Season of the Haunted 2 Destiny 2 Season of the Haunted is progressing. The mystery of the egregore fungal infection is slowly being revealed. The fungus continues to spread throughout the H.E.L.M. The H.E.L.M. is experiencing a fungus outbreak this week. A Nightmare is also hidden among the fungus, which can surprise anyone who keeps an eye on it.
Who is this Nightmare? Based on the cloak, it appears to be a Hunter. It could be a generic Guardian like the ones who appear on the Moon or the Derelict Leviathan. There is another possibility. It could be Katabasis the Hunter who was allied with Calus in the Season of the Chosen. Remember that the Egregore Fungus strung up Katabasis at the end of the mission. Now, examine the Nightmare in the H.E.L.M. It appears to have tendrils attached to its arms that look very similar to the appearances of the egregore.
If Katabasis is the one, he might play a part in the Season of the Haunted’s future events — even if it’s a mere role in lore. It could be him, however. The Nightmare’s shifting appearance makes it difficult to determine, but it could be a female figure. If this is true, then the Nightmare could be a Hunter. However, it could also be any of the characters mentioned in lore and other sources. Gemma Nixx and Iron Lady Perun are possible candidates, but they don’t seem to have any bearing on the Season’s events. Perun could be Saladin’s Nightmare. But that’s a stretch.
Let us know your thoughts. Katabasis seems to make the most sense to me, as the Season of the Haunted established that the egregore could function as a transmission vessel for consciousness. Maybe some part of him survived and made its way to the H.E.L.M. What could it be? Are there any unanticipated consequences to the H.E.L.M.’s egregore? Is Claus trying to overthrow the ship by spreading the fungus? We’ll have to wait and watch.
