Call of Juarez: The Cartel is an Action and Shooter video game developed by Ruffian Studios and released for and consoles in 2014. Set against the backdrop of modern Mexico City, Call of Juarez: The Cartel lets players experience first-person shooter action through one of three protagonists; Det. Ben McCall from LAPD, Agent Kim Evans (FBI), or Eddie Guerra (DEA).
Two characters who the player does not choose will either be controlled by AI, or human players working together cooperatively in drop-in/drop-out co-op mode. As opposed to Call of Juarez or Bound in Blood, which allowed players to select which character to control in each level, The Cartel forces players to make one choice prior to starting any level and uses that character until starting another campaign unless starting over from scratch is decided upon.
No matter which character the player chooses to control in each level, all gameplay remains consistent despite any possible distinction in character choices; however, some character may lead to additional cutscenes or in-game dialogue that differ from standard gameplay. As in any game, every level contains multiple phone calls for all three characters at different points in time; to hear all three calls simultaneously, players need to go through it three times using different characters each time!
