Fans continue to mock Sony’s latest PlayStation console for having such an inadequate battery life according to industry insiders.

PlayStation’s next console, currently known as Project Q, was unveiled during its recent PlayStation Showcase event. There were plenty of titles being showcased that will launch for PS5 and PS4, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater Remake as well as brand new IPs such as Phantom Blade Zero.

Project Q is an innovative portable PlayStation 5 that’s more Wii U than Nintendo Switch in nature. However, unlike Nintendo Switch it cannot be played independent of a PS5 system; rather it streams all content played through to it over its internet connection and must stay linked at all times to provide seamless gameplay experience.

Fans have begun questioning its existence and openly ridiculing its design and functionality, including an industry insider who claims its battery life is shockingly meager; only 3-4 hours’ playback between charges has been confirmed by many fans.

Insider Tom Henderson recently addressed Sony’s cloud streaming console in a report, disclosing previously undisclosed information regarding its poor battery life compared to competing consoles like Nintendo Wii U gamepad which can last between 3-5 hours before needing charging and Nintendo Switch handheld mode, which typically can last 4.5-9 hours between charges.

Henderson suspects the battery life could prove harmful to Project Q’s success as its only real use case is playing PS5 games in multiple rooms simultaneously. Price also remains an influencer on sales: according to him $200 is fair price that might bring more sales; many others, however, believe Project Q will follow Sony VR2 by overpricing their product which cost more than what it should have costed originally.

Project Q will reportedly release sometime later this year, according to PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan who informed audiences at the PlayStation Showcase event in San Francisco in May that more details on its development would become available in subsequent months after.
