New RoboCop FPS going for M rating plans on being as violent as movies

RoboCop: Rogue City will finally arrive this year! With so much being discussed about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Starfield in recent months, it can be easy to lose track of other potential gems on their way – or at least we hope so! – but RoboCop: Rogue City should come as welcome news indeed.

RoboCop: Rogue City from developer Teyon and publisher Nacon is set for release sometime during September, with no exact release date available yet. Additionally, September will also see Starfield and Mortal Kombat 1 make an appearance this month. Rogue City promises an original story inspired by all three movies from its source material with brutal gameplay inspired by all three film trilogy films; we got our first look back in March; since then it has been revealed that Rogue City will aim for an M rating.

Piotr Latocha revealed in an interview with ComicBook that RoboCop: Rogue City does not yet carry an age rating but the team are hoping for one as soon as possible – Mature being their aim as anything less would likely alienate fans of the franchise. He further elaborated, noting how anything less would “piss off fans”.

“One of our first design decisions when considering RoboCop game development,” Latocha explained, was not being limited by Teen rating restrictions or similar considerations. We knew it would cause massive uproar if fans found out we made concessions they found unacceptable.

“Our objective was always to produce a Mature game, but what we really aimed for was recreating the kind of violence seen in films without resorting to special cuts – which I think worked in our favor since what we really wanted to show may have earned the rating we’re likely going for (18, most likely) which shows all we want.” It remains unknown if any release dates will be revealed at Summer Game Fest later this week.
