Spider-Man fans believe Gwen Stacy to be trans in Across the Spider-Verse.
Now in cinemas, the highly anticipated sequel to 2018’s Into the Spider-Verse has opened to critical acclaim and audience praise alike. On Rotten Tomatoes it currently holds scores of 95% from critics and 96% from audiences while on Metacritic it has an audience score of 8.5.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse picks up right where the first film left off with Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld), teaming up to save everyone against an unknown enemy from across multiverse.
Warning! I may discuss spoilers for the 2018 movie (so please consider this a warning), however in her world Gwen Stacy must deal with her friend Peter Parker’s murder by Lizard.
Since she has been charged with his murder, Gwen has been on the run from police and criminals alike; as well as New York residents who see her as their archenemy. As a result, she must keep her identity hidden to avoid reprisal attacks from those she could potentially come up against as well as avoid becoming part of public opinion against her.
