Marvel’s Spider-Man developers have revealed that their intention wasn’t to create an anti-police game; and have made certain adjustments to ensure this doesn’t reoccur in future releases.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has long been one of the most anticipated games on PlayStation 5, so we finally received our first in-depth glimpse at its gameplay at last month’s PlayStation Showcase – and all I can say on behalf of everyone is I can’t wait to be Symbiote Peter in it all! Players will have instant switching between Peter and Miles during freeplay sections; and according to developers it features twice the size map as its predecessor did! Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looks set to improve upon its predecessor by eliminating unintended pro-cop elements from its predecessor as well.

Back when Marvel’s Spider-Man first hit stores, some critics labeled the game propaganda because Peter, as Spidey, served as an extension of police force. For example, police asked Spidey to start fights at locations they couldn’t obtain warrants for; some players claimed this condoned illegal behaviour and also raised questions over surveillance towers; sure, these help players see where there’s action taking place, but some also wondered exactly why police use them at all?

Bryan Intihar, creative director for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, told Eurogamer in an interview: “That wasn’t our intention at all; that wasn’t in any way intended by us.” As for surveillance towers: ‘These towers don’t exist anymore in this new game,” so we should find other means of opening up maps.

If you didn’t notice, it may come as a pleasant surprise that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 villain Kraven The Hunter was actually played by an established Red Dead Redemption 2 actor – quite an interesting trivia pointer! It makes for quite an eye-opener.
