At present, Overwatch 2 players must surely be questioning why Blizzard decided to close down Overwatch 1 and force everyone onto Overwatch 2, given another controversial decision being revealed by them.

Before Overwatch 2 launched, two key selling points of Overwatch 2 were its PvE Story and Hero Missions – features which would let players dive deeper into any one character that wasn’t present in Overwatch itself – making the idea of more story-focused content in Overwatch’s sequel very enticing to fans. Unfortunately however, Blizzard confirmed they have decided not to include Hero Mode any longer, much to their displeasure of fans.

So at least we can still enjoy story missions? Not quite, unfortunately. According to Game Rant’s report, Blizzard recently unveiled more details for Overwatch 2: Invasion’s release date on 10 August and will include three action-packed missions set across massive maps with complex objectives that lead to an “intense storyline that guides your path”. Unfortunately one line of text has raised eyebrows among players about access to such content – particularly regarding DLC expansion packs that may appear after release date.

Blizzard recently unveiled that players could purchase either the $15 Overwatch 2: Invasion Bundle or $40 Ultimate Invasion Bundle to gain “permanent access to Overwatch 2’s Invasion Story Missions, legendary skins, and in-game currency”. Unfortunately no details were given regarding what happens if players opt not to purchase these bundles – whether there will be ways of accessing missions without incurring costs; whether or not free-to-play players could keep these missions forever is uncertain but at any rate

Troublesome about this situation is its implications that players will likely need to pay for future story missions; we’ll have to await clarity from Blizzard before concluding if things really are as grave.
